Fast hurts!

Last night was clear and crisp and just crying out for a night ride. I haven't ventured out with the Wednesday night riders for well over a year. Has it really been that long? How many excuses is that?

Within minutes of leaving the carpark I was remembering why night rides are so exciting and blasting through the trees on the West Highland Way made work seem really far away. Why don't I do this more often?

Just over an hour later, I remembered why. I train lots so I can race long and I don't train for screamingly fast rides that last for two hours or more. Slowly but surely, each bit of my body started to protest with my lungs exploding, cramp in my toes, cramp in my legs and eventually a pain in my hip. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for these rides yet- especially after being ill - but the night was just too lovely to give up on. There can't be many times in the year where the bog between the Whangie and Mugdock is crisp and springy -long live the frost and night rides!
